Noll Services has made a significant contribution to local biodiversity with the recent planting of over 9,000 trees at a country estate in West Berkshire. The extensive project, carried out using a tractor fitted with a single furrow planting attachment, saw each young tree carefully staked to provide extra protection during its early growth.
In a bid to create a varied and resilient habitat for wildlife, a diverse mix of tree species was chosen for the planting. The selection aims to encourage a balanced ecosystem as the trees mature, providing shelter and food for local fauna. By using a mixture of species, the project not only contributes to carbon capture but also helps to maintain ecological stability, ensuring that the estate will support a wide range of bird, insect, and mammal life in the years to come.
The UK Government has been actively promoting reforestation and woodland creation across England through various grant schemes. These grants are designed to assist landowners, farmers, and conservation groups by helping to offset the costs associated with planting and maintaining trees. In England, schemes like the Woodland Creation Grant, part of the Rural Development Programme, offer financial support to help cover the costs of establishing new woodlands. Landowners, land managers and public bodies can apply to the England Woodland Creation Offer (EWCO) for support to create new woodland, including through natural colonisation, on areas as small as 1 hectare.
You could receive up to £10,200 per hectare, plus up to an additional £12,700 in stackable payments when delivering wider benefits to society, nature recovery and the environment, to support your woodland creation scheme.
